Glendoris Lillian Cheek

Glendoris Lillian Cheek went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2024. Glendoris was born in 1930 to Helmer and Mabel Bjerkness in Mountain Lake Minnesota. She was the middle child between her elder sister Gladys and younger brother Charles. In 1950 Glendoris met and married Billy Joe Cheek in Kennewick, Washington. They had two daughters together, Valeria and Leigh. Glendoris and Billy lived in San Jose, California for 32 years. Glendoris formed many lifelong friendships there, organizing social groups like the Gastronomical Delight Society and the Ice Cream Motorcycle Gang. Her family fondly remembers visiting San Jose and the trips Glendoris planned to nearby Carmel Beach. In 1998 Glendoris and Billy moved to Chandler, Arizona, just one block away from their older daughter Valeria and granddaughters Lili and Jo. After Billy passed in 2015, Glendoris moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to be closer to her younger daughter Leigh.

Glendoris was a talented self-taught pianist and could often be found at Atria playing piano from memory. She loved listening to music, especially Gene Autry and gospel hymns, and would break into song at every opportunity. Glendoris was an avid correspondent throughout her life, and enjoyed writing cards and letters to friends and family.

Glendoris was preceded in death by her siblings, Gladys Hardesty and Charles Berkness, and her husband Billy Cheek. She is survived by her two daughters Valeria Breiten and Leigh Cheek, her two granddaughters Lili Wyckoff and Jo Wyckoff, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her ashes will be interred in Kennewick with her beloved husband Billy. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial gifts to the Bearden U. M. Her memorial service will be held at Bearden United Methodist Church, 4401 Sutherland Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37901 on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 3 PM Eastern Time. The service will be posted online at https://www.youtube.com/@beardenumcmedia.
