Betty Louise McFalls Allen, age 94, passed away on January 28, 2026, just one week after celebrating her birthday. Born on January 21, 1932, in Sevierville, Tennessee, Betty lived a full and spirited life rooted in faith, family, and a whole lot of good food.
Betty spent a good portion of her adult life in Canton, North Carolina, before returning home to Sevierville, where her story first began. She was married to Donald Junior Allen until his passing in November of 2011, marking more than 50 years of marriage together.
A wife, mother, Sunday School teacher, and friend to all she met, Betty wore many hats and wore them well. She was firm, determined, and yes, very stubborn, traits proudly shared by many of the strong women who came before her. She was big on manners and values, but don’t let that fool you, she also loved the great outdoors just as much.
Betty was the proud mother of five sons and one daughter, all of whom preceded her in death. Though she carried that loss with grace and quiet strength, her legacy lives on through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
One of Betty’s favorite jobs later in life was working at Dollywood. She truly never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Whether it was a friendly conversation or a warm smile, she took pride in keeping the place clean and making sure guests felt at home, treating Dollywood as if it were her own front porch.
Most people will remember Betty for her legendary country cooking, especially her gravy and biscuits and her New Year’s Eve parties. Her recipes were never written down, measured, or exact, just a pinch of this and a dab of that. She taught the ladies not only how to cook, but, as she liked to say, the way to a man’s heart.
Betty was known for her guitar playing and gospel singing, filling rooms and campsites with music and joy. As time went on, she even came to admit that other kinds of music were “just as good.” Camping trips with her were never quiet or boring, there was trout frying, kettle cooking, and some of the tallest tales you’ve ever heard told around a fire pit.
Betty will be remembered for her faith, her humor, her stubborn streak, and the way she made everyone feel fed, body and soul. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lessons that will be carried forward for generations.
Her remains will be laid to rest at Morningstar Church in Canton, North Carolina, beside her beloved husband, Donald Allen.
Betty's obituary was submitted by her loving family.
